Yes, Los Angeles can be a real bitch if you start talking about traffic... when you say that morning traffic is bad, wait until 6pm and just jump in your car and drive on the 405 southbound, northbound. Try the 10 either east or west. Go for what I call the Downtown junction adventure, where the 110, 101, 5 all meet within a mile of distance. Experience the "side" boulevards (meaning boulevards close to the freeway going the same direction) when you think you can go faster than the freeway but you don't realize that red lights stops you every other block...
But this morning/evening mess gives you plenty of time to appreciate how great is your car, to groove or sing on your favorite tunes, think about this problem you have at work you can't solve, or just simply let you mind wander (keep an eye on the traffic, stupiiid!!!)
Also, the city of Los Angeles is currently building a Metro following the 10 from Downtown to Culver City, which should open next week, and soon to the Santa Monica! Here is the Map! Now one more thing to change in LA: more and safer bike lanes, por favor!
